The Challenges of English Language Teaching In Indonesia
In learning
English as foreign language the Indonesian of course getting challenges. This
because when the learners like to study English in the school, but teachers do
not professional in teaching that make the students difficult to learning
English. In the other hand effect of globalization also influence teachers and
students in learning English.

Quality of Teachers
The quality of
teachers is one of vital factor in English language teaching process in
Indonesia. According to Sulisworo (2016 p.82) the success of learning process
based on perception toward the teacher’s vital role, although the facility of
learning has been good, but the quality of teacher still low it will give
significant effect toward the attaiment of learning objectives. Based on that
statement, teachers have to have good quality in teaching, especially in
teaching English in Indonesia as a foreign language. For example, teachers must
be professional in teaching students. According to Hamid (2009, as cited in
Yani, Lilis and Ria, 2015, p.2) “ a profession must maintain a significant
social function in communities and its members must have expertise which is
gained from accountable education or training”.
The quality of
teachers can be seen from the skill that they have and how they implementated
in the classroom. As Dardjowidjojo (2003, as cited in Mattarima, Hamdan, 2011,
p. 102) “ Teachers have to be creative and innovative in preparing the teaching
materials and making the teaching aids that meet and reflect the nature and the
authenticity of learning tasks”. Nevertheless, the quality of teachers also can
be seen from the result of the test that they follow related to English
learning.
Nowadays, the government only focus
on the quantity of teachers rather than on quality. Whereas the quality of
teacher is very important thing to establish students more enthusiasm in
learning English.

Effect of Globalization
The effect of Globalization cannot
be defined in this time included to education. One of globalization effect on
educational context is language diversity especially English. Based on global
transportation in Heriansyah article (2014, p.166) said that the people can
movement easily and travel quickly from one country to other country because of
the language that they have learned. For example, Indonesian who study abroad
more easily in facing something that he or she needed because she or he can
speak English. The influence of globalization in English language teaching in Indonesia
is happened since technology began to enter and expand in the entire region of
Indonesia.
The Indonesia government has been
providing the facility like computer laboratory, library, and auditorium to
schools. But, “There were some schools where teachers and students could not
use the electronic and equipment that available like computer” (Heriansyah,
2014, p. 167). Therefore, the teachers in Indonesia have to mastering the
technology in order to be taught to their students for getting more information.
According to Goh (2013, p.62) “ Technological innovations in the way
information is communicated means that learners have to develop new skill in
searching, using and producing online in English”. When teachers in era
globalization cannot apply computer and internet, it difficult to make students
understand more about English.
