PROBLEM IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHNG

Education in Indonesia still become the problem especially in English language teaching. One of problem that happen in this case is lack of students motivation in learning English.  Motivation is an element that learners have to have in English learning process to get good outcome. Motivation is very important for any language learners, because without sufficient and strong motivation, it is impossible to achieve the learning target. As Hammer (2001) state that the difinition of motivation as the sort of someone internal drive which pull he or she on doing thing in order to attain something. In addition based on Ruesch (2009, as cited in Mattarima, 2011, p.103) “ Motivation to achieve is tied to individuals’ personal, scholastic, and professional goals, as well as to their self-concept and identities, both imagined and real”. Motivation also an influential factor in teaching learning process. The level student motivation is very influence on how and when students’ use language learning (Oxford and Nyikos, 1989). However, the differentiate specifically about students learning strategies is very crucial. The motivation in English language teaching learners is still a problem in Indonesia. Many students in Indonesia show low motivation in learning English. Most of them are passive in teaching and learning. They come to class to fulfil their attendance list. Contrary, students who lack of motivation can make they less perception in learning ability ( Rugutt and Caroline, 2009). Hence, students who lack motivation in Engish learning, they do not get good achievment. Motivation is the most important factor in language learning and is the key determinant of frequency and type of strategy.
According to Kamarul Sukri (2009, as cited in Mattarima and Abdul 2011, p. 106 ) “language learners with have higher motivation level posses a richer repertoire of strategies and employ strategies more frequently than less motivated language learners”. Therefore, it is important for teacher to understand students’ motivation competence and language learning strategies in order to improve students’ competence an language learning (Mattarima and Abdul, 2011, p.106). Concisely, when students have good motivation in language learning process, the goals of students will be good as well.
